Hastings & Rother Crossroads Caring for Carers Crossroads is an organisation that provides practical support for people who care for a disabled, ill, or elderly frail person at home. Support is also available to help carers of children with special needs such as autism, learning difficulties or a physical disability as well as young carers. Our aim is to Help relieve the stress and strain on carers and give both them and the people they care for an opportunity for a much needed break. What do we do? The provision of a properly trained, reliable Care Attendant may make the difference in determining whether or not someone is able to continue living at home, rather than in a residential or nursing home. We work with people of all ages from babies through to the very elderly. Working flexible hours, our Care Attendants can provide help when it is most needed. Pre-arranged help is organised, usually for a few hours, on a regular weekly basis during the day or evening. Help during weekends, and all day support may be possible on special occasions. This includes:- Area covered In addition to the towns of Hastings, St. Leonards, Bexhill, Battle and Rye, Hastings & Rother Crossroads covers all of the rural area of Rother plus the parishes of Ninfield and Hooe. Other locally based schemes cover the rest of Sussex. We are a member of the national Association of Crossroads Care Attendant Schemes Ltd., which is the largest organisation providing help for carers in their own homes with over 200 member schemes across the country. Hastings & Rother Crossroads is a registered charity. We do not charge for our service. How are we funded? Our main funding comes from East Sussex, Brighton & Hove Health Authority and from East Sussex Social Services with some project funding from the Carers Grant. We have now been awarded a further National Lottery Grant which finishes in April 2004. Support from Trusts and Businesses, as well as fundraising at a local level, are actively pursued. Whilst the service is free many of our clients choose to make one off or regular donations. If you wish to make a donation please send it to our office address. Cheques should be made out to Hastings & Rother Crossroads. If you are a tax payer,a Gift Aid Declaration will enhance your donation by enabling us to recover tax from the Government at no extra cost to yourself. Asking for help Anyone can contact our office and request an assessment. A senior member of staff will visit the home to discuss individual needs. If appropriate, help will be given as soon as possible. Unfortunately we sometimes have a waiting list and cannot always provide a service at the time of referral. Care is taken to match the staff member with the family they are visiting and we try to ensure that the same care attendant is the regular support worker. All referrals are dealt with in confidence. Contact is maintained to ensure that the service is meeting current requirements. We encourage people to comment on the service and do have a complaints procedure which is available on request.
