Rother Community Links

The inaugural meeting | Your free computer from BT Community Connections | Neighbourhood Watch | Steering Committee meeting on Tuesday 4th December

A large number of Rother`s great and good came together in Battle on Friday 9th November 2001, when Rother Community Links was launched. The inaugural meeting was opened by Patricia Marston, Chief Officer of the Hastings and Rother Community Health Council. The Chair was taken by Tony Moore, Vice-Chairman of the Hastings and Rother Community Health Council.

Tony Moore

The guest speaker was Mary Colato, who during the last year, in addition to her many other commitments, has promoted the Lewes District Community Network. In her address she explained how the Network operated with the invaluable help of modern internet technology, and how those principles and techniques could be of value to Rother Community Links.

BT Community Connections - free computers

BT Community Connections have given away 1,734 computers this year (2001) to community organisations, and all have now been delivered. How many went to organisations in Rother? None. How many were given out in East Sussex? As far as I can tell, none.

It has just been announced that the scheme will be continued next year. Let us know if you wish to put in an application, because what you put on the form is absolutely vital in determining whether you get one or not! For free lessons, see the Resources page.

To get an application form, go to www.btcommunityconnections.com and click Apply Online: forms will be sent out in the New Year.

Neighbourhood Watch

Colin Boylett of Etchingham Neighbourhood Watch has started an e-mail discussion mailing list entitled Rother Community Safety (the similarity of the name with our own is coincidental). For further details of the group, or to join, contact Colin Boylett at colin@cboylett.freeserve.co.uk

Also "Wanted for questioning in connection with ..." No, not really, but "Most Wanted" is a Neighbourhood Watch e-mail coordinator for the Burwash area. If you can assist him with his enquiries, please contact Colin Boylett.

Next Meeting of the Steering Committee
